A great site with some fantastic links. A couple of examples: Flash Video Downloader and the FFX exporter plug-in for iPhoto.Very useful. Also has some nice pics of how apple used to be in the ads and in the flesh. Fantastic – note the hole in the skivvy in the second shot.

A simple site with a nice name has this fantastic korma recipe. Try it with steamed rice, pappadoms and a little lime pickle. Fantastic.

Here’s a handy little thing for intel mac owners. Library books tracks your account information with the library and warns you ahead of time if the books are due to be returned. It works with Christchurch City Libraries and several other New Zealand libraries. It can be set up as a start-up item that checks your library account when you start the machine up (or when you connect to the internet). It can also send events to iCal to give you warnings there as well.Well worth a look.

MAD comics used to have this great section comparing what the advertising said and what the actual experience of using a product was. They were hilarious, and I was reminded of them when I read about the Brit who was taken at gunpoint, fingerprinted and put on the national DNA database after someone mistook his MP3 player for a weapon. See Sideswipe.
I bet all the design, testing, ergonomics, software and hardware developing couldn’t have prepared them for that particular customer experience. I suppose the MP3 player could have been a taser, or a phaser, or a remote control for an explosive – if it was dark, and you were some distance away, and you had the eyesight of a beetroot…Whatever way you look at it, having your DNA on permanent record for listening to music on the way home is pretty tough. I wonder what song it was? Answers on the back of an email please…

Read here about my favourite postman, who no doubt rode a bike once or twice. It feels like months since I’ve written anything here, and, strangely, it is. Not that I haven’t been writing, more that I haven’t really felt like blogging for a while.I started a writing course at Hagley on the weekend, and so far so good, and there is a need to keep not one, but two diaries. A reading diary and a writing diary. I’ll probably do at least some of that here, rather than do it longhand. Or perhaps I will post works in progress, I don’t know. Some things the world doesn’t really need to read, and half baked sh / wr/ ite is one of them.Anyway for the first time in ages it felt good to write, interesting, fun even. So long may it last, and I’m sure the reading diary will make interesting material. More to follow soon
